As you know, RCDSO has specific requirements to perform moderate conscious sedation in your clinic. Edropin has partnered with a superstar team Dr. Jasdev Bhalla and Dr. Komil Bhalla in order to create an amazing new 3-day hands-on in-person program that gets you certified and confident.   • Understand commonly used oral sedatives, with focus on Benzodiazepines.
  • Understand the pharmacology and pharmacokinetics of nitrous oxide and its synergy with oral sedation.
  • Recognize and react to medical emergencies. Focus will be on team work and communication led by the dentist.
  • Manage the airway using basic management techniques. Including demonstration with airway adjuncts.
  • Learn about standard patient monitoring parameters and equipment

Course Syllabus

Day 1: Friday, October 29th, 2021

Medical Emergencies

Participants will learn about all the possible medical emergencies that can occur in a dental office. The lecture will focus on recognizing the emergency and the appropriate response(s) and pharmacologic intervention(s) needed for the indicated emergency.

Pain and anxiety management

This lecture will briefly touch upon mechanism of pain, understanding fear and anxiety and the use of nitrous oxide and oral sedation in management of pain and anxiety including its advantages and limitations. The second half of the lecture will focus on Patient selection through focussed patient history and assessment of at risk patients. And the last part of the lecture will discuss the preprocedural patient evaluation and patient preparation.

Nitrous oxide pharmacology and pharmacokinetics

The last lecture series of the day will be on Nitrous oxide. The lecture will briefly discuss Anatomy,Physiology and Administration as applied to nitrous oxide.

There is mandatory MCQ on medical emergencies after this session.

Day Two: Saturday, October 30th, 2021

This day will focus on Oral Sedation. Through a series of slides the participants will learn about the basics of oral sedation pharmacology. After the basics, the focal point of the lecture will be on benzodiazepines class of drugs. We will apply our basic pharmacology knowledge obtained from earlier slides onto benzodiazepines. The participants will also learn about the pharmacology and pharmacokinetics on the reversal agent and its administration.

The last part of the lecture will briefly focus on other potential oral sedative drugs in accordance with the college guidelines and requirements. Dr.Komil Bhalla will discuss in detail the college requirements in regards to licensure, facility inspections, record keeping and equipment maintainence.

There is mandatory MCQ on sedation after this session.

Day 3: Saturday, October 31st, 2021

The last day of the course will focus on practical administration of nitrous oxide. There will be practical demonstration on nitrous oxide delivery and participants will administer nitrous oxide to each other under supervision. All the participants need to be licensed in the province of ontario for this exercise. Out of province participants can contact RCDSO for temporary licensure requirements. The last order of the day will be distribution of the MCQ exam. A debriefing session will be done for those students who may need assistance.

Participants have to successfully demonstrate the use of airway adjuncts after demonstration this session.

Dr. Bhalla is a former Clinical Instructor at the University of Toronto, in the Department of Dental Anesthesia. He previously held an Assistant Professorship at the same university. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Anesthesiology and an active member of the Maintenance of Certification Committee for the Diplomate Board.


He is also founder /owner of MM Sedation Study club which is RCDSO accredited. Co Founder and Designer of “Inter Seda” Nitrous Mixer. Dr. Bhalla oversees the safe sedation of both children and adult patients. He holds additional training in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (P.A.L.S. - for children) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (for adults). He lectures nationally and internationally on Dental Anesthesia.

Dr. Komil Bhalla

Dr. Komil Bhalla received her Graduate and post graduate degree in prosthodontics From India. She obtained her credentials to practice Dentistry in Canada at the University of Western Ontario, in 2007. Dr. Komil Bhalla has also received certification from the University of Toronto in imparting Moderate Sedation for dental procedures. She will also share her perspective of imparting dental treatment under oral moderate sedation. She is also trained in ACLS and PALS.

Continuing Education Credits

You will earn 21 Category-2 CE towards RCDSO Quality Assurance Program.

Edropin reserves the right to: (i) cancel any course at any time; (ii) change speakers; (iii) change the venue; (iv) change the programming; (v) change the time; and (vi) change the location, all without notice and at its sole discretion and shall not be liable for any costs, expenses, damages or any other amount whatsoever due to such cancellation or changes to the course offering. Edropin shall be under no obligation to re-schedule any course which has been cancelled. edropin shall be under no obligation to offer meals or refreshments at any of its courses and is under no obligation to accommodate any special dietary restrictions at courses where meals are offered. 

edropin will not be liable for any expenses incurred by any registrant for attendance at a course, including but not limited to: travel expenses, accommodations, meals, salaries, wages, and loss of income, or for participant’s failure to attend a course. 

By registering for a course, registrants acknowledge having read and understood this disclaimer and registration fee policy and agree to hold harmless edropin as set out herein. 

Registration Fee Policy 

Registration course fees must be paid in full prior to the course. If such payment is not made, the registrant’s reservation for the course may be cancelled at the sole discretion of Edropin Inc. All cancellations have a mandatory 2.9 % plus $0.30 non-refundable credit card fee. The following cancellation policy applies for all courses: (i) cancellation 90 calendar days prior to the start date of the course – full refund; minus any processing fees (ii) cancellation between 90 and 30 calendar days prior to the start date of the course – refund less a 25% administration fee; (iii) cancellation less than 30 calendar days prior to the start date of the course – no refund. 

Edropin conflict of interest and regulations

All programs offered by edropin will be for scientific and educational purposes only and will not promote the products of the company directly. Edropin is responsible for the control of content and the selection of presenters and moderators. Edropin may work with or accept financial or in-kind support from other organizations but those organizations must first agree in writing that they will not direct the content of the program. Outside organizations or their agents will respond only to requests initiated by Edropin for suggestions of presenters or sources of possible presenters. edropin will record the role of the company or its agents and ensure that all names/roles are disclosed to participants prior to attending a program.
