Course Descriptions and Objectives:
Day 1: “RPD’s- Principles and Myths: There Are Effective Alternatives to Implant Therapy and Why Didn’t I learn This in Dental School?”
Course Overview: Not every patient can afford implant therapy. This presentation revisits the tenets of proper RPD fabrication with many examples of clinical treatment from everything from basic principles to the most complex RPD’s. There will be hands-on component where the audience will design and treatment plan partially edentulous patients and evaluate RPD frameworks. Appropriate discussion will ensue to cater to patients currently in your practice. Participants may bring their casts to the presentation for discussion and RPD designing.
Course Objectives:
1. To learn the treatment alternatives to implants that are effective and esthetic.
2. To learn methods to minimize unwarranted forces on the remaining teeth.
3. To learn to plan the RPD in conjunction with complex fixed treatment in proper sequence to ensure successful results.
Day 2: “Tips to Make Dentures More Predictable, Easier and Profitable?"
Course Overview: This presentation will include many clinical examples of situations, where the dentist is faced with an unhappy patient due to existing conditions or complications from prior treatment. In addition to these clinical cases, there will be discussions on the importance of occlusion for long term success. Spend time at this informative and entertaining presentation identifying problems that have arisen and some that may arise in your practice and reap the benefits for years to come.
Course Objectives:
1. To learn how to identify key components of successfully treating a variety of denture patients – they are not all the same
2. To learn how to turn what appears to be a complicated patient into a simple and predictable result
3. To learn how to deal with denture complications that you may face in your practice
4. To learn clinical techniques to make denture treatment less stressful for you and the patient

Presenter Biography:
Dr. Carl F. Driscoll is an educator, clinician, author, researcher, and lecturer. He currently teaches as a Clinical Professor at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry and where he served as the Director of the Prosthodontic Residency for 21 years from 1997 -2018. He also served in the same capacity at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for three years prior to moving to the dental school. Dr. Driscoll retired from the U.S. Army after twenty years of service with the rank of Colonel. Dr. Driscoll has given over 600 presentations nationally and internationally and is lauded for his very informative and entertaining presentations. He has published over 90 journal articles, and co-authored three textbooks. He has received many awards from the military as well as prosthodontic organizations throughout his career. Dr. Driscoll is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP). Dr. Driscoll has served as President of the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics, President of the American Board of Prosthodontics, and as President of the ACP. In addition to his teaching commitments at the school, he is in private practice in Bethesda, MD and is in continuous demand to lecture globally.

Virginia AGD is designated as an Approved PACE Program Provider by the Academy of General Dentistry. The formal continuing education programs of this program provider are accepted by the AGD for Fellowship/Mastership and membership maintenance credit.
