The Dark Side of Implants LECTURE: Complications, Diagnosis and Management

Course Outline:

This is a must course for clinicians surgically placing, restoring and maintaining implants. High success and survival rates are reported in the literature however there is an increasing number of complications reported particularly in patients who are at higher risk for complications. If the clinician is better able to identify and understand the different complications, prevention and management can be more effectively performed. Understanding the profile of patients who are at greatest risk for developing complications will lead to providing strategies for early recognition and intervention.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of the program, participants will have learned to:

• to identify patients at higher risk for dental implants

• how to correctly diagnose the different types of complications

• how to recognize the differences between early and late stage complications

• to understand the differences between biological and bio-mechanical complications

• to choose the appropriate management protocol for early intervention and treatment

The Dark Side of Implants HANDS-ON WORKSHOP: Complications, Diagnosis and Management

Course Outline:

With the exponential global growth of implant placement peri-implant complications have increased dramatically over the past decade. Biological, mechanical and technical risks play a significant role in implant dentistry and lead to an increase in the rate of repairs, remakes, further expenditure of time and financial resources and often an affect on the quality of life for the patient. This course will explore different protocols and philosophy for treating peri-implant complications and give the participant the opportunity to use state of the art instrumentation to treat these complications.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of the program, participants will have learned to:

• Recognize risk factors for implant dentistry and develop a sound clinical treatment plan

• Correctly diagnose the different types of implant complications

• Understand and evaluate the different clinical and radiographic presentations

• Identify the different techniques and philosophies for treating implant complications

• Become familiar with the current consensus on treatment protocols
