I've Got TMJ! Treating Temporo-Mandibular Disorders as a Part of Comprehensive Care

  • We all have patients that come in and say this. Although we may chuckle at first, ignoring or mis-handling a Temporo-mandibular joint disorder can and will lead to case failures. Despite this, joint disorders are amongst the least understood, and most under­treated ailments in dentistry. Well you don't have to run anymore. This course is designed to de-mystify temporo-mandibular joint disorders, leaving the participant prepared to work through most joint discrepancies and offer restorative solutions to increase their patients' comfort level. By adhering to the principles taught in this course, restorative failures will be minimized , ultimately increasing patient satisfaction.
Objectives:
  1. The proper examination protocol for T.M.J. disorders and easy to recognize signs that a problem exists.
  2. How to differentiate between bruxism(parafunction), clenching(dysfunction}, and a restricted envelope of function(constriction} as well as how to determine if the occlusal problem is the cause or a symptom.
  3. Diagnostic testing, including MRI, Cone Beam CT, Doppler, and what we can learn from each.
  4. How to incorporate the necessary restorative care into treatment of joint disorders.
  5. The materials and techniques necessary to see a T.M.D. case through from first appointment to case-completion.
